Well, take a guess.
If I read this statement to my children, they would have all screamed Obama, though, I would not have blamed their Grannies, if they both had vehemently disagreed, and offered Mandela as the correct answer.
Now this is what I call RESPONSIBILITY by a leader. And as an optimist, I can honestly tell you that, the continent, mother Africa will one day , have the privilege to exhibit an Obama, as the Americans now do, and as we all, in the past, and still do today, show off the elderly Mandela. What is it about Africa? Its richness in producing world acclaimed leaders (well, will I be exaggerating if I said One Mandela is equivalent to 10 African leaders?) as well as world acclaimed despots (and One Mugabe is equivalent to twenty leaders?). As usual, I choose to adhere to the spirit of “can do”, oh, “YES WE CAN”.

I visited some blogs sometime ago, just for me to read and keep abreast with the world of cyberspace, there is definitely a lot happening out there and I am glad there is enough room for all of us. For instance,  Funmi Iyanda, a foremost Nigerian broadcaster has a blog (http://fiyanda.blogspot.com/) which I found interesting, so was Bella Naija (http://bellanaija.blogspot.com/) and Jeremy Weate’s Naija Blog(http://naijablog.blogspot.com/).
At work, I am busy putting together a multimedia presentation for our project which is to be presented to our stake holders. I will surely keep you posted with our company’s great plans in Lagos, Nigeria. I tell you, it is such a big project and I am proud to be part of the redesign of the landscape of a portion of Lagos state. It is no crime to think BIG; anything short of thinking big will render anyone’s destiny impotent.
There is one guy who never ceases to amaze me, right from the stories of his humble beginnings, to his go - get attitude, his larger than life personality and his wealth of contacts around the world, he has travelled round the world and met with world leaders, all because he dared fear and conquered its nemesis. I am so proud of this man whom I am proud to call a brother and a friend. His name is Dele Momodu.
Bob Dee, as he is fondly called, has brought a smile back to the back pages of a national news paper. Apart from his duty as the publisher of the much read Ovation magazine, he also writes a Saturday column -Pendulum - for Thisday, a National Newspaper. I remember the days when Ray Ekpu and Dele Giwa, side by side in the then National Concord was a must read. The same can be said about Bob Dee’s Pendulum column.
In one of his ever captivating write-ups, titled “The Pleasure of Writing” published two Saturdays ago, the 15^{^th} of November to be precise, I could not help but smile as I read Bob Dee’s account of his pleasure of writing. “A writer”, Bob Dee wrote, “is in a class of his own. He lives in his own world. He is a perpetual dreamer”.  Spot on.  He then went on narrate his journey into the world of journalism, reeling off names of journalists and writers whom he had admired whilst perfecting his writing skill. It was a - who -is - who in the world of Nigeria’s print media. Names such as Lewis Obi (African Concord), Mike Awoyinfa (National Concord), Dele Giwa,  Ray Ekpu,  Kayode Soyinka,  Nosa Igiebor,  Dan Agbese, Yakubu Mohammed,  Soji Akinrinade and May Ellen Ezekiel (MEE) all of Newswatch magazine fame. Nduka Obaigbena , in his twenties set up the ThisWeek magazine, he is now the publisher of Thisday newspaper. What a time. What an audacity of hope, these young ambitious writers had in the eighties. I believe there are still many more out there today with similar, if not mightier talents, on the way up to showcase their God given talents. This endless list of writers of note made an interesting read and brought back nostalgia of the 80s. Bob Dee’s Pendulum column has always been a must read for both myself and Adebomi every Saturday. Well done to you Bob Dee.
Last night, Bomi and I had to carefully navigate through the ‘land mines’ of deciding how we were going to attend two functions on the same Saturday, kilometres apart from each other. The children’s school has a variety night scheduled to take place on a Saturday at MUSON (Musical Society of Nigeria) conference centre in Onikan, Lagos. We both knew of this day, a day we can control. However, a sudden death occurred. This, we had no control over. It was the death of the mother-in-law of her very good and dear friend/sister, Buky (now Revered) Adenekan. When Buky phoned to inform her of the demise of her 103 year old mum-in-law, it did not occur at the time to Bomi (and me) that it clashed with the variety night. Once she found out, she immediately informed Buky and assured her that it will not prevent her from attending the party. Now, the delicate issue of discussing how we would manage the only family car to cover both venues - Onikan in Lagos state and Abeokuta in Ogun state, a distance of almost 100 kilometres came up last night. While I sat to watch the Champions league football match between my adopted team, Manchester United, and the Spanish team Villareal, that was the time the ever so delicate discussion came up. Sometimes, my wife chooses her moments. Don’t we all?
Well, she said it; I heard it and a misunderstanding arose – “said what?  You may ask? “. Well, how we were going to divide the car into two…just joking wifey. The good news is that we came to a temporary arrangement, and I can announce to you that both functions will be represented by the Salus, somehow. Women and men, surely, God, our perfect God, knew what he was doing when he wired us up differently. Men are surely from Mars, and women from Pluto.  Or, could it the other way round?  Whatever! Who cares?
